We’re excited to share that Breast Friends was recently featured in a BBC News article, showcasing the wonderful impact of our community. Written by George King, the article highlights the journey of Lily Ward, one of our members, and the support she found through Breast Friends after her breast cancer diagnosis.
Lily’s story, like many others, speaks to the power of connection and solidarity. At just 29, after being diagnosed with breast cancer, Lily found comfort and strength by joining our community. Meeting people who truly understood her experience made all the difference, as did attending our events where she could connect with others facing similar challenges.
Since our beginning in 2021, Breast Friends has worked to build a supportive space for women affected by breast cancer. We’ve distributed nearly 2,000 Kits filled with thoughtful items to ease the treatment journey and organised numerous events that raise funds and foster a sense of belonging, from wellness walks to coffee mornings and creative workshops.
We’re also incredibly proud of our 2Shine project which has been on our hearts for some time. Launched on Secondary Breast Cancer Awareness Day, 2Shine exists to provide peer support for anyone living with secondary breast cancer. We were thrilled to hold our first 2Shine in-person meet-up in December, and we’ve got a lot more planned for the year ahead.
This BBC article serves as a reminder of the amazing work our community does, and we want to thank everyone – from members to volunteers – for helping us build something so meaningful. Your kindness and support truly make a difference.
